Candidate for Cardiff North
My name is Mike Cope and I am the Green Party's candidate for Cardiff North, where I grew up and still live. I am active in the local party and stood in Llanishen in the 2017 Cardiff local elections. I joined the Green Party because it is the only party which recognises the threat climate change poses to our planet and the only party which has the courage to put the environment at the centre of its policymaking.
As candidate, my main aims will include stressing the need for and importance of a radical programme of investment in green infrastructure and renewable energy, the creation of green jobs, fighting for an end to austerity, pressing for the need to revitalise our tired electoral system through Proportional Representation and further devolution of powers to Wales.
As someone from a low-income background who knows what it is like to have little, I understand the need for new social housing, the creation of stable, well-paid jobs people can take pride in and a stronger NHS. Wales is perfectly placed to be at the forefront of new technological, housing and environmental innovation, but only a party with a strong vision can make this a reality. The Green Party has this vision and I am proud to represent it in Cardiff North.
