Candidate for Bridgend

Alex Harris

Green Party General Election Candidate

In 2017 I became the first Green Party Councillor to sit on Porthcawl Town Council. I have been instrumental in passing a plastic free motion in the Town Council, and we are close to achieving Plastic Free status for the town. I am a supporter of Sustainable Wales and their work to create a community energy project and I am proud to be a signatory on their letter asking Bridgend CBC to declare a climate emergency.
I work in the construction industry, primarily for main contractors on social housing and office refurbishments and it gives me great satisfaction to see tenants move into homes that are comfortable, well-insulated and will reduce fuel poverty.
I am excited by the Green party pledge to integrate social justice with action on climate change by investing £100 billion per year on a Green New Deal which will provide training and apprenticeships for new green jobs. As the economy moves away from fossil fuels this investment is just what Bridgend needs.
