Candidate for Walsall North
I am currently a Green Party Councillor in Solihull. I was re-elected in May 2019 with 70% of the vote. I have campaigned for environmental and social justice for almost a decade and joined the Green Party in 2013.
I grew up in the Black Country town of Tipton and I have had family living in all three constituencies of Walsall. My working career has been varied. My early working life was spent in the traditional Black Country industries of iron founding and light engineering, I also worked as a laboratory technician, until my early 20s, when I entered the world of education. I’ve worked in the Education sector for 22 years - initially working in academic libraries, then as a qualified, Secondary history teacher and am now studying for a Doctorate in Elizabethan Political history, part-time. In addition, I also work with young adults, who have additional needs.
These experiences shape my approach to Green Party politics. Working with people (not ‘doing’ politics to them), hard work all-year round; with compassion, dedication and boundless energy. I stand in the election to argue that the Climate Emergency is the most important issue facing humanity in this century and to offer a fair and just society that offers decent health care, housing, and education for everyone. My values have been further shaped by my own personal experience - caring for my disabled wife.
I support a second referendum and remaining in the European Union, to reform it from within.
