Candidate for St Austell and Newquay
My name is Collin Harker, I am 44, with two children, and have been resident in Tywardreath, on and off, for 15 years. I was born and grew up in Canada, but to a Glaswegian mother and a father from Yorkshire. Coming back to the UK for university, I was lucky enough to marry a Cornish woman, and have chosen Cornwall as where to live and raise our family. I operate a small guest house, helping to generate work and money in the area, and I am more proud of our Green tourism award status than of our AA stars.
By training I have been an economist and management consultant. I am also a founding director and treasurer of a Community Benefit Society that has taken over a devolved athletics track and playing fields in Par, and is working to promote active and healthy lifestyles and keep the facilities open to the community for the long-term. I have been a Green Party member since 2016, prior to which I was a member of the Green Party in Canada, where I also stood as a candidate in the Federal Parliamentary election.
There are many voters in St. Austell and Newquay who do not have confidence in simplistic solutions to complex modern challenges, and who do want to support both real local empowerment and real global stewardship. That is what the Green Party offers and why I am proud to be a Green Party candidate in the general election.
