Candidate for Southport
Originally from Belfast, I have lived in NW England for 44 years, 30 of those in Southport.
This is a crucial time for people. We need to stop the Tory government's vicious austerity attack on the least well off . And we must prevent them using a hard Brexit to undo employment conditions, and environmental protections, and turning the UK into an offshore tax haven for business.
Southport has significant pockets of deprivation within the town, and there are real challenges linked to the ageing population, and the shrinking local economy. Sefton's Local Plan will put major demands on the existing strained infrastructure, and threaten our precious Green spaces. Last, but certainly not least, Southport is within the areas licensed for potential shale developments and Fracking.
I will demand an economic system that works for people not profiteers, a society that is equitable and protects the vulnerable rather than punishing them, and built on a truly sustainable approach to the protection and enhancement of our environment.
I want to be part of making that happen. I have experience of public speaking, and dealing with the media, and I believe I could use that experience to good effect as the Green candidate. I have been a member of the Green Party for more than 15years. I was a Manager in the Environment Agency and its predecessors, and was also for many years a Senior TU Steward in NALGO, and UNISON.
