Candidate for Southampton, Itchen
Osman has lived in Chandlers Ford over 20 years, and is married with two children. He has been a Green Party supporter for over 25 years.
With the climate emergency upon us, Osman is concerned about the legacy impact on the next generation. He is clear that urgent changes must be implemented to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
Osman has worked in a European technology forum to develop standards for pan-European implementation. The risk of Brexit brings concern that the UK may become isolated, and could be detrimental to industry growth and jobs.
Public transport in Southampton has been seriously degraded. Whilst electric vehicles are promoted, including buses, this must be balanced by ensuring energy comes from sustainable sources. The reduction in fossil fuel-based vehicle usage must also be balanced by ensuring low-cost, frequent services with more routes become available.
Since the NHS is publicly funded, Osman feels it should not be for sale. Instead, it should be supported by a government willing to invest.
Osman is aware of the risks of online safety to children, and feels more should be driven through government policies that can filter to local authorities, schools and parents.
In 2017, Osman experienced a natural earthquake. He finds it unacceptable that permits have been issued for fracking, and feels this practice must be banned due to environmental damage and risks of earthquakes.
He is concerned about racist rhetoric in the UK lately, and feels this is unacceptable and should not be tolerated in modern society.
