Candidate for Folkestone and Hythe

Georgina Treloar

Green Party General Election Candidate

As the Green Party candidate for Folkestone and Hythe, I am living and breathing climate action and am the forerunner on climate in the candidate lineup in my area. As a district councillor, I tabled the climate and ecological emergency motion, which was passed by full council in July. I now sit on the cross-party working group that aims to make our ambition of becoming carbon net zero by 2030 a reality.

I’m doing a PhD in Environmental Social Science at the University of Kent. My specific topic is looking at how the climate and ecological crisis has been communicated over the past year or so of rapidly expanding climate activism. My aim of doing this research is so I can become the best climate communicator I can be. To help people wake up to the climate crisis.

What motivates me is a deep, visceral response to what’s happening in the world. I’m originally from Queensland, Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is dying, the rainforests are burning, the droughts are enduring. People around the world are already being displaced and affected by a climate that’s spiralling out of control – particularly those in the global south. I also have a 7-year-old son whose future I’m fighting for.

Professionally, I’m a freelance copywriter, brand strategist and project manager. Music is central to my life – I’m trained in piano and tuned percussion. I’m also a drummer and have played in numerous bands over the years.
