Candidate for Bournemouth West
Bournemouth's first Green Party Councillor, elected May 2015, Simon grew up in Surrey, moving to Bournemouth in 1998. For the last twenty years he has been involved in the third sector including setting up and running an arts charity for fourteen years, working with disadvantaged members of the community; prior to that he worked in finance. Currently Simon is Chief Executive of a local charity and volunteers at a local soup kitchen. He is also a humanist celebrant, conducting ceremonies across Dorset and Hampshire. Simon is married with young children and adult step children; he has lived in the ward for over fourteen years.
As a councillor Simon has successfully campaigned in his ward (Winton East); to retain public toilets and had others re-opened, pushed the council into taking action on flooding and raises questions that the majority (and only other party on the council) don't.
Locally Simon sees the new Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole authority as a new start for the area, an opportunity to do things differently. Nationally he says "We are seeing a growing understanding of the climate crisis and the risks we all face. We need to act now and act decisively so that our children and our children's children have a future." He is also a supporter of proportional representation.
